Biography
Paulinus Stegner, born in Berlin in 1999, started playing the piano at the age of five and later the horn and jazz trumpet. He has been studying music to become a teacher at the Leipzig University of Music and Performing Arts since 2019. He received horn lessons from Jürgen Runge, Anne Mentzen and Bernhard Krug and jazz trumpet lessons from Martin Auer. He learned classical arranging and composing from Olaf Schmalz, Robert Bauer and Jan Ezra Kuhl, and also received lessons in jazz arranging with a focus on big band from Heiko Kulenkampff, Ralf Schrabbe & Henning Plankl. In 2019, his band „Easy Does It“ was awarded a concert prize with his compositions at the Bundesbegegnung Jugend Jazzt. In 2024 he won the first prize at the Beyond Borders French Horn Composition Competition with his composition „Leaving MV – Jazz-Suite for Horn Quartet“.
He is currently writing works for the school music big band and the university big band at HMT Leipzig, the Saxony Youth Jazz Orchestra and the big band „The Bigband Messengers“, in which he also acts as co-leader.
